Sports Premium
At ABS, we are proud of our sports and PE provision. All children receive at least 2 hours of taught PE every week. In addition, they have access to a range of organised sports and unstructured play during break times. Our breakfast and after-school sports clubs are extremely popular.
Understand: we find out what our pupils enjoy and help them to develop skill and expertise. Because we know our children well, we adapt our provision so that every child, regardless of ability, is able to make progress.
Encourage: children learn that while it is wonderful to win, the real enjoyment from sport comes from the game itself. We win and we lose with grace. We encourage and spur one another on.
Inspire: sports heroes can make great role models. We learn about the qualities of successful sportswomen and men and we practice them. As children move into Key Stage 2, they know that younger children look up to them – they act with integrity and inspire others to do the same.
Equip: being fit and healthy equips our children not only for every day life but also for the challenges they face. Sport develops resilience, strength, moral character and hope.
All schools receive the PE and Sports Premium based on the number of pupils in Years 1 - 6. The Department for Education makes it clear that schools must spend the money to
- build capacity and capability in the school and make sure that improvements made to the quality of PE, sport and physical activity provision now are sustainable and will benefit pupils joining the school in future
- develop or add to the PE, sport and physical activity that the school provides
It is important that schools make the most effective use of the premium. To best achieve this, spending should focus on making improvements in 5 key areas, to assist in:
- increasing confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sporting activities
- increasing engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity and sporting activities
- raising the profile of PE and sport across the school, to support whole school improvement
- offer a broader and more equal experience of a range of sports and physical activities to all pupils
- increasing participation in competitive sport
