PSHE
At Archbishop Sumner Church of England Primary School, we believe that high-quality Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) and Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) are essential in supporting our diverse community of learners to navigate the complexities of modern life. Rooted in our school's Christian vision to understand encourage, inspire and equip, our PSHE/RSE curriculum empowers pupils to develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes they need to thrive, both now and in the future.
We use the Kapow Primary scheme of work to deliver our PSHE and RSE curriculum. We adapt it where appropriate to meet the needs of pupils and the community. We aim to:
- Equip pupils with the knowledge and understanding to make informed choices about their health, safety, relationships and financial wellbeing
- Foster pupils' personal development, including their ability to be confident, resilient and responsible individuals
- Promote pupils' active engagement as informed, thoughtful and productive members of society
- Support the school's wider priorities around safeguarding, mental health, behaviour and inclusion
Content and Skills
Through our PSHE/RSE programme, pupils develop a deep understanding of key topics including families and relationships, health and wellbeing, safety, citizenship and economic awareness. Lessons build on prior learning to ensure pupils can make connections, apply their knowledge and continuously develop essential life skills.
Progression
Our PSHE/RSE curriculum is carefully sequenced to provide a coherent learning journey from the Early Years Foundation Stage through to the end of Key Stage 2. Themes and concepts are revisited and explored in greater depth as pupils progress, enabling them to build a robust foundation of knowledge and skills.
Wider Impact
Through our PSHE/RSE curriculum, we nurture well-rounded, confident and resilient learners who are equipped to make positive choices, contribute actively to society and embrace the opportunities and challenges of the future.
